I have diagnosed GERD for like 6 or 7 years. Early on, the doctor gave advice to drink flaxseed tea. I've been using it when my hearthburn got worse and it seems to reduce it alongside with acid level. I change my diet and habbits too, but this helped me the most to the point of not using drugs.

If you want to make it a try I share with you what I know, but remember this that my mother did it for me for long time. Today is first time I did it myself:

  1. Flaxseed is cheap like hell - at least in Poland, I don't remember price, but something like 5-10 zł (cheaper than 3 USD) for 250g.

  2. Around one tablespoon of flaxseed for one glass of the drink

  3. I don't know the best way to make it. I just did it the way like making tea and it was thinner than what my mom used to make, you can also put something over glass to make it warm longer or just boil it on the oven. Maybe I used less seeds than my mother, but I feel better anyway.

  4. NEVER and I mean NEVER drink it very hot or hot. It can do harm this way to your stomach. 5. I've read about flaxseed on the internet and there are claims that it makes GERD worse for some people. Well, it helped me, but there is always chance it won't help you. Just pay attention to your health, when you try this. Maybe it can trigger some kind of allergic reaction or this doesn't help in cases where GERD is caused by something else.

  6. It is best to drink early in the morning on empty stomach before you eat or drink anything.

I fill empty pill capsules with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and take those throughout the day and before bed. This neutralizes the acid in my stomach. My doctors have OK'd this practice, but you should ask yours before trying it.

Sometimes, I take small spoon of baking soda, then I drink a lot of water. It helps really fast, but effects don't last much longer. It's good in case of some emergency, but I don't know if this is really safe.
